In 2025, Google rewards websites that demonstrate deep expertise in a topic, not just websites that have published a lot of articles. The topic cluster model is the structural framework that signals this expertise. Here is how to build one from scratch.
Publishing 100 unrelated blog posts is far less effective than publishing 10 tightly clustered articles around a core topic. Topic clusters tell Google your site is an authoritative resource on a subject, which dramatically improves rankings for every page in the cluster.
Start by identifying 3–5 topics that are central to your business and have sufficient search volume. Each topic becomes a pillar page. For a content agency, core topics might be: SEO Content Writing, Brand Film Production, LinkedIn Ghostwriting, Email Marketing, and Website Copywriting.
For each pillar topic, brainstorm 8–12 specific subtopics. These become your supporting blog posts. Each supporting post targets a long-tail keyword related to the pillar topic and links back to the pillar page.
Publish the pillar page first, it is the anchor of your cluster. Then publish supporting articles over 4–8 weeks. As each supporting article goes live, add an internal link from the pillar to it. Also add internal links from supporting articles to each other where relevant.
Indian SEO has nuances that affect cluster strategy. Regional language content (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu) can dramatically expand your cluster's reach. Location specific supporting articles perform well for local service businesses. Festive season content clusters (Diwali, financial year end) can be built seasonally.
